경건한 마음이 수반되는 실제적인 지식

이 실제적인 지식이 아무런 쓸모 없는 어떤 사변(思辨)보다 한층 더 확실하고 한층 더 견실한 지식임에는 의심의 여지가 없다. 실로 경건한 마음은 자신이 생명의 깨우침을 받았으며 조명을 받았고 구원을 받았고 또 의롭게 되었으며 성화(거룩하게)되었다는 것을 경험하게 될 때에 하나님의 임재를 인식하게 되며, 따라서 하나님과 더불어 항상 교통하게 되는 것이다.

This practical knowledge is doubtless surer and more solid than any idle speculation. For the pious soul has the best view of God, and may almost be said to handle him, when it feels that it is quickened, enlightened, saved, justified, and sanctified by him.
